Day 02: - 6th
May 2002: Delhi-Kalka- Shimla
Arrive Delhi at 0415 hrs. Train from Delhi Himalayan Queen departs
at 0505 hrs.Arrive Kalka at 1120 hrs & take the connecting
train departing at 1155 hrs for Shimla.Arrive & transfer
to Shimla Hotel. Rest of the day free.
Day 03: - 7th
May 2002: Shimla
Arise early & view sunrise streaming over apple orchards
& snow capped peaks around you. Don't miss the eagle as
it soars hundreds of feet above you screaming its welcome to
you. After breakfast, take a trip to the little village of Chail,
surrounded by magnificent Deodhar forests, at 2226m. 45kms away
from Kufri. Visit the Chail palace, which is a gracious mansion.
There are entrance tickets here that will cover you for tea
and snacks a walk on the worlds highest cricket pitch &
polo ground, will surely make the neighbors back home, green
with envy. Have lunch at Chail palace in maharaja luxury. Return
by evening & overnight at the hotel.
Day 04: -8th
May 2002: Shimla
Morning, leave for local sightseeing, visiting Shimla town also,
experiencing what life is for the locals and the boarding school
children in this wonderful and quaint town. You can also visit
the scenic, Narkhanda, Fagu, Naldhera, Mashobra, pray at the
historical centuries old Hanuman temple and the Nagdevi temple
and the famous Jakhu temple. Evening free at leisure to sit
in the open-air cool breezy environs of the hotel and drink
in the scenery. Turn in early after you pack your bags because
tomorrow heralds your last destination.
Day 04: -9th
May 2002:Shimla- Manali
Leave early for Manali (254 kms) and a mountain drive of 7hrs.
At 2050m Manali is surrounded by silent snow and deep boulder
strewn gorges. There are fields of wild flowers, small picturesque
hamlets & fruit laden orchards. Check in & overnight
at the hotel.
Day 05: -10th
May 2002: Manali
Head to Rohtang Pass after breakfast passing Keylong, Kothi,
Rohala Falls at 2500m & finally the Rohtang at 3980m, the
crucial link on the old trans Himalyan trade route. The snow
here may be muddy, as it is a stale snow but it’s an experience
walking on it, to you Bombayites. It is a 2 hrs drive to get
here. Lunch here at a dhaba. It will probably be the only time
you will ever have a meal on land at 12000 feet above sea level.
Return & overnight at hotel .
Day 06: -11th May 2002: Manali
Today you visit Manikaran at 1737m. An 85kms drive, which will
take you 4 hrs. There are hot sulphur springs here that bubble
next to the icy waters of the Parvati river. On the way there
or back, visit Kullu, an intricate web of numerous valleys,
a visual delight & each more beautiful than the other.
Day 07: -12th
May 2002: Manali
Today is the day for local sightseeing of the Hadimba temple
built in 1553, with its 4-tiered pagoda roof, Vashishth hot
springs & the Solang valley, a good picnic spot, where you
may try your hand at Paragliding after a short pony ride. In
the afternoon visit Naggar for its century old stone & wood
castle & the art gallery of Russian paintings. Back to the
hotel for a sumptuous dinner & to bed early.
Day 08: - 13th
May 2002:Manali- Delhi-Mumbai
Early morning depart for Delhi. Arrive Delhi & transfer
to railway station for your train departing at 1600 hrs for
Mumbai.
